Murphy Adams Wow! This is an incredible collection of songs, and executed so perfectly by these kids. The compositions are modern and moving, and totally brought to life by this group! Favorite track: Michael Gordon: Every Stop on the F Train.

about

The Young People’s Chorus of New York City is a multicultural youth chorus, internationally renowned for its superb virtuosity and brilliant showmanship, as well as a model for an inclusive society that places the arts and individual expression at the forefront. Founded in 1988 by artistic director and MacArthur fellow Francisco J. Núñez, this groundbreaking program harnesses the power of music to fulfill the potential of every child.

Transient Glory, the innovative commissioning series for young voices, was created by Núñez in 2001 to spotlight the YPC as a creative source of inspiration and a glorious instrument for interpreting the work of the world’s leading composers. The six works on Transient Glory III were assembled from a burgeoning repertoire of new music that YPC has commissioned and premiered since 2006. Featuring new works from Terry Riley (with special guests Kronos Quartet), Meredith Monk, Michael Gordon, John Corigliano, Bora Yoon and Paquito D’Rivera, Transient Glory III is the most diverse chapter yet in the burgeoning YPC catalog.

In his review of the first Transient Glory CD, WNYC’s resident music guru John Schaefer encapsulated what makes this series so special: “While the project title itself acknowledges the fleeting beauty of the voices that these pieces were written for, there are some real gems here, works of character and substance that could potentially endure for many years.”
